cactus ⇢ something you’re currently learning (about)?
i am currently learning about different printing techniques and the history of them in making political posters!!! it’s very specific, it started as something i had to know about for work (and still is, to an extent) but quickly grew into an interest outside of work too. i am particularly fixated on the work of the atelier populaire at the moment because they (and the whole ‘68 movement!!!) have been so influential in everything that’s come after and i love how you cannot separate the art from the political context in which it was created!!! there have been a few poster collectives in the uk that were formed after 68 (mostly active between the 70’s-90’s) and all of them were heavily influenced by the design techniques used by the atelier populaire but also the political strategy in printing and distribution was very much inspired by them too! and i just think it’s neat!! i’m also attempting to teach myself different printing techniques, starting with lino printing!!
mahonia ⇢ what place, thing, activity inspires you most and how do you express yourself when it does?
being in transit inspires me. whether i’m cycling to work or getting a bus or a train or even just walking somewhere. the world is full of potential when you’re in motion!!! and also people, i guess, because what i love most about public transport (and cycling and walking) is the 'public’ part of it. i love seeing people love being around people love thinking about how we’re all just going places doing things living our lives!!! and i usually listen to abba and maybe write if i’m in a good mood.
bamboo ⇢ do you change into a different outfit when you get home?
short answer is no. longer answer: i wear pretty much the same thing absolutely every day (winter version = black long sleeved top and black jeans. summer version = black t-shirt and black shorts.) so i do not usually change unless the temperature has shifted dramatically
sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?
probably fiction. storytelling, you know? we have always been telling stories and we always will!!! everything is a story
aloe vera ⇢ what’s something (mundane) you really want to experience in life?
i want to go on a sleeper train sooooo badly. i think it would be the greatest thing ever to wake up in a moving train and sit up and watch the world roll by outside the window. i think that would be incredible
Worst part about this is Iβve only ever used that yellow square emoji once and it was just to see how it looked. This isnβt who I am. However, in retrospect, I suppose it is
sometimes everything is awful and i have nothing in my body but rage. other times, wellβ¦ other times the strawberries are thriving next to the radish and the newly planted courgette is settling in nicely in the no dig bed that the landlord said we couldnβt build but we did anyway <3
garden update: strawberries are THRIVING, all the courgettes are now in the bed, the radish are still doing swell, and the string beans have started sprouting!!! thereβs also tomatoes and early kale in the greenhouse :)
